A lease is a fixed-term rental agreement in which you pay a set monthly amount to use a commercial printer or copy machine rather than buying it outright. The equipment stays owned by the leasing company or finance partner for the length of the term. How long is a typical copier lease term?
Most commercial copier and printer leases run 24, 36, 48 or 60 months. Thirty-six and sixty months are the most common. Shorter terms mean higher monthly payments but less total interest and faster access to newer equipment; longer terms lower the monthly cost but commit you further out.
What does a typical monthly lease payment look like?
Payments depend on the machine's speed, whether it prints color, the finishing options and the term length. A compact desktop multifunction unit sits at the low end, a mid-volume color multifunction device sits in the middle, and a high-speed production machine with a finisher sits at the top. We quote every configuration in writing with the service and toner components itemized, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Is leasing cheaper than buying a copier?
It depends on how long you keep the machine and what your cash position is. Buying is usually cheaper in total dollars if you keep the equipment for its full useful life and can absorb repair costs. Leasing costs more over time but preserves cash, spreads the expense evenly, includes service and toner, and lets you upgrade when the technology moves. What is included in your lease payment?
Our standard lease includes the equipment, delivery and installation, network and driver configuration, staff training, ongoing preventive maintenance, all service calls, all parts and labor, and toner. Paper and staples are the usual exclusions.
Do you require a down payment?
Most approved leases require the first month's payment and a small documentation fee rather than a traditional down payment. Applicants with limited credit history may be asked for an advance payment or a personal guarantee.
